How to make Deliciously Crispy Prawn Fry

Prawns also known as “Shrimp” or “zinga ,” is indeed a popular dish in many Asian regions as well. In countries like India, Thailand, and Vietnam, shrimp or Prawns is often cooked with a variety of spices and ingredients that highlight local culinary traditions. Here’s an easy recipe to make crispy and tasty Prawns Fry (Shrimp Fry) in a pan
Ingredients for Prawns Fry
– 250 grams of Prawns/shrimp (cleaned and deveined)
– 2 tablespoons rice flour (for crunch)
– 1 tablespoon besan (gram flour)
– 1 teaspoon red chili powder
– 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
– 1 teaspoon coriander powder
– 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
– 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
– 1 tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar
– 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
– Salt to taste
– 2 tablespoons oil (for frying)
– Fresh coriander leaves for garnish (optional)
The above ingredients are to be used according to the quantity of “PRAWNS”
Make the Marinade for Prawns Fry
In a bowl, mix rice flour, besan, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, and salt.
Stir until it forms a thick paste. If needed, add a bit of water to get the right consistency.
Marinate the Prawns/Zinga
Add the Prawns to the marinade and mix well to coat them evenly.
Let the shrimp marinate for at least 15-30 minutes. For better flavour, marinate them for a few hours or overnight in the fridge.
Heat the Pan (Use Pan Fry – Solimo Stainless Steel Heavy Bottom Fry Pan
Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. You need enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan but not so much that the shrimp are deep-fried.
Cook the Shrimp
When the oil is hot, place the marinated Prawns/Zinga/shrimp in the pan in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding; fry in batches if necessary.
Cook each side for 2-3 minutes or until the Prawns are golden and crispy. Watch them closely to avoid overcooking.
Drain and Serve Prawns Fry
Transfer the Prawns to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any extra oil.
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves if you like and serve hot with lemon wedges or chutney.
